Fallen Wyrms
The Mosaic

The Cast

There is no single chosen hero. The turning of the age is the protagonist, seen through the eyes of those it catches. Click any portrait to watch it move.

A ruined heir, a highborn traitor, two fallen goddesses, a fading brownie, and a deathless woman who would rather not be found. Around them move the powers who never left the world, and the mortals who have thrown in with the dark. None of them can save the age by themselves. That is the point.

The Mosaic

The six through whose eyes the age is seen.

Corvane, the Ashen King, a weathered ranger of the failing north
Corvane
The Ashen King
Rightful blood of a northern kingdom that is now only ash, Corvane holds a ranger's line in the Failing Marches under a name no throne remembers. He is the closest thing the age has to a king, and the age has no use for kings.

Alaster, a highborn who joins the rising dark
Alaster
The Traitor
Highborn, gifted, and certain the world owes him more than it has paid. His is the most ordinary of falls: not despair but ambition, choosing the Void because it answers faster. He is what the cults are really made of.

Aelinor, a deathless half-elf of the Lonely Isle
Aelinor
The Deathless
Deathless on the Lonely Isle, Aelinor has learned the lesson immortality teaches: that stepping in costs, and waiting does not. She could act. She cannot make herself. Her stillness may be the world's quietest tragedy, or its last reserve.

Aurelia
The Fallen Goddess

The Powers Who Walk

The gods who never truly left, moving through the world in ruined or hidden form.

The Chronicler, Silvara, the withdrawn goddess of memory and the saga's narrator
The Chronicler
Silvara · your narrator
The withdrawn goddess of truth and memory walks the world as the Chronicler and narrates the whole saga. She takes no side and lifts no hand; she only keeps a true account of how the light goes out. Her full page →
The Deceiver, Cael the Songlord, now the god of lies
The Deceiver
Cael, the Songlord
Once the Songlord and the Chronicler's love, Cael fell for the promise of writing the story of the universe. Now the god of lies and song, he gives the failing world beautiful, useful, false stories. He writes what should have happened; she writes what did.
The Sea-Lord, Mauros the Ever-Changing, the fickle Undivided god
The Sea-Lord
Mauros the Ever-Changing
God of the tides and the deep, Mauros could not choose a side in the war and fell for the indecision itself. Fickle and irresolute, he is the Undivided at their most dangerous: not evil, but never to be counted on. His river-daughters keep the world's magic moving.
The Fallen, Sereth, the god of Time turned to the Void
The Fallen
Sereth, the Measurer
Sereth, who was the god of Time, alone always faced the nothing at the end of things until he longed for it. He cannot be destroyed, only caged, so there will always be a Fallen. He is less a villain than the shape the whole age is falling toward.

Mortals of Consequence

The named hands of the rising dark, and the wise who may or may not help.

Vorst the Cult-Master, the Deceiver's high priest
Vorst
The Cult-Master
The Deceiver's high priest and the cold hand behind the cults. He does not want the world to end so much as he wants to be the one who writes its ending. Alaster's superior, and far more dangerous.
Eldreth the Deepening Mage, a wizard being unmade by the Void
Eldreth
The Deepening Mage
He looked at a dying resource and reached for the Void to replace it. He is being unmade by the reaching, half a man and half a rift, and he calls the unmaking wisdom. He is the Arcane order's doom-loop given a face.
Ithkarn the Dark-Elf Lord, the elven face of the Fallen
Ithkarn
The Dark-Elf Lord
Beautiful and merciless, the elven face of the Fallen. Where the cults are made of broken mortals, Ithkarn is the Void wearing grace, and he finds the whole business of the fading light exquisite. He is what the dark looks like when it has taste.
Wystan the Warden, an elder archmage of the withholding-wise
Wystan
The Warden
An archmage of the withholding-wise, who hoards the fading light so some remains for a later age. Ally or obstacle depending on the hour, he may be the wisest man alive, or the one prolonging the dark out of caution. He is certain he is right.
